Well… Good Morning habs fans!! If last night’s game put you in a bad mood, what just occurred this morning will take all that away. General Manager Marc Bergevin just announced that head coach Claude Julien and associate coach Kirk Muller have been relieved of their duties. Not surprised, considering the Canadiens have lost 6 of their last 8 games, going 2-4-2. In the span of those 8 games, the team looked disoriented, as if they lost their identity, which is speed off the rush, and defense pinching in with some offense. They’ve gone away from what made them a hard team to play against at the beginning of the season.
How things can change. It was just two weeks ago, where fans were talking about Julien getting coach of the year, and Bergevin GM of the year. Put in one bad week, and things can quickly shift for the worse. Now, assistant coach Dominique Ducharme, who has been with the Habs for 2 years now, will take over as interim head coach, and Alexander Burrows has been called up from the Habs AHL affiliate Laval Rocket to join the coaching staff. Marc Bergevin acted promptly before things escalated. Ducharme will have his hands full, now with the team about to get into their toughest part of the schedule, so don’t expect any major changes to system just yet. However, it is a great opportunity to let the team play and not worry about anything else.
Montreal’s next game is tomorrow night against the Jets in Winnipeg. Hopefully, the worst is now behind us!
